Blue: The 411 of the Doggy World

Blue is the ultimate sniffer. The only other dog that can top her nose is Murphy, the Puggle. These two can both smell things from far, far away.

It always amazes me how much information a dog can learn about other dogs in the area, just by sniffing.

It is hard for Blue to go more than about 5 feet without stopping to check out a new scent. It is funny to watch when she finds something good because she will keep going back for more, paw at it, and sometimes even roll in it. (Those are the times I am hoping she did not just roll in something dead or something that came out of the hind end from another creature.)

Murphy: On the Mend

Murphy had a little trip to the vet last Wednesday to have some modifications made. (AKA. neutering.) His surgery went great and now he is recovering. Kylee and I visited him twice last week after his surgery and he seemed pretty happy and energetic.

The hard part for Murphy is that he has to take it easy for two weeks. That means no play dates and no up close hellos to other dog pals. Today he had such a hard time just saying hi to Oliver from afar. He wanted so badly to run, chase and play. You can do it Murphy!!

Magnolia & Libby: Dogs vs. Cats

Over Labor Day weekend Magnolia, Libby, and I got to play while their parents were away. Magnolia enjoyed her three walks a day around her town of Shirlington. She is not the most social butterfly towards other dogs, but now she knows to associate most dogs with treats. Whenever another dog will come by she will look to me with those puppy dogs eyes looking for her treat.

Don't let this pup fool you with her age,(12 years old), because she has the heart and soul of a puppy. She can still give you a run for the money when she spots something during a walk that she really wants. She can also show Libby who is boss and will move pretty fast to get to her.

One of Magnolia's favorite spots is the Dogma Dog Bakery in Shirlington. What more could a dog ask for? Food, toys, treats, and even freshly baked doggy goodies. She loved sniffing and looking into the case of treats, dreaming about if only she could eat all of those treats. She did get a few treats though.

Libby had some competition from Magnolia when we would play with her toys. Magnolia does not take any interest in her own toys, but loved to chase after Libby's. She actually caught Libby's toy bird a few times before Libby could get to it. There was a little rivalry whenever one animal received some love and attention. I learned quickly to scratch both animals at the same time.

Libby is still a kitten so she thinks everything looks fun and is a game. She even thought me cleaning out her litter box was exciting. She enjoyed chasing the litter, the garbage bag, and my arm whenever it moved. She can get so excited that after playing for ten minutes she starts panting. That is when she loves just laying in your lap and having a nice cuddle and some scratches. She also loves to stretch up to your shoulders and give you a kiss. She is quite a charmer.

Mr. Bigglesworth: The Doggie Do

This pup has style!

How many dogs do you know can sport a mohawk. Not many that I know of. But this Bichon Frishe/Poodle can sure pull it off.

When you first meet Mr. Bigg he can seem a little unfriendly, but once he gets to know you he just melts (literally). If you are willing to give him a scratch he will just go limp on your lap and lay there until you make him move. He is truly a lovebug!

Thor: Welcome Parker and Puppy Jungle Gym

Thor stayed with me while his parents were at the hospital having their new baby boy, Parker. Thor was able to meet some friends: husky mix, boston terriers, pomeranian and golden retriever. He also went for plenty of walks everyday to see new sites and smells new scents.

He enjoyed playing fetch, but with him it quickly turns into keep-away. He loves for you to chase him when he gets a toy that he likes. (I am not sure who gets more exercise in this game-me or him.)

Kylee was able to have someone to yell at and boss around. Thor was a good sport with having her pet him, roll all over him, and point her finger at him while she was yelling baby gibberish. He has always been a great detector of poopy diapers as well. If he starts showing a lot of interest in Kylee's bum, then I know it is time for a change.

Good luck Thor with the newest member of your family. You are going love having someone new to lick and play with you once he gets a little older.

Jake and Charlotte: Is it Time for a Walk Yet?

As you can see in the picture, these two love their walks and will just stand at the door waiting for you to open it.

They were so EXCITED today for their walk that they were running and jumping all over their house. I could barely get them to stay still long enough for me to place their training collars on.

Kylee was taking a little too long in coming to the door and getting in her stroller so Jake and Charlotte were trying to encourage her with some barks and jumps. It finally worked and they were so excited to be off on their walk to get some exercise and see the sites.

Blue: Pond Puppy

What does Blue love more than her squeaky tennis balls? WATER! Well, I am not sure if it is more, but it would be a close tie.

She is not an avid fan of baths in particular, but she loves creeks, canals, ponds, and even big puddles that she may find along the road. There is just something about jumping in the water, splashing around, swimming, and then snorkeling around with your nose buried in the water.

There is a little pond that is near her house that we walk to sometimes. She loves taking a drink from the small creek that runs into it and loves to watch the local ducks and swans. Once in awhile if the geese don't notice her sneak up to them, she will even get one or two good barks at them before they scatter off.

She also loves smelling the scents of all the other dogs that have frequented the area. It is a pretty high traffic dog area according to Blue.
